The Trocodero Esplanade was built at the same time as the “Palais de Chaillot” in the mid-1930s. In its location was the concert hall of the former Trocadero Palace. On each side against the palace, there are four golden statues, which represent the allegories “The Youth of Alexandre Descatoire”, “the Morning of Pryas”, and the Gardens of Couturier.
It was at the “Palais de Chaillot”, at Trocadero, that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted on 10 December 1948 by the United Nations General Assembly. With Eleanor Roosevelt, one of the main editors was M. René Cassin. At the entrance of the courtyard, you will see the seal from 1985, when the forecourt was renamed “Parvis des Droits de l’Homme” (Human Rights Plaza), which reads: ” All men are born and remain free and equal in rights” (Article 1 of the French Declaration of Human Rights from 1789).
